Frequently Asked Questions

What are HIFEMS and RF?

HIFEMS - High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Stimulation

RF - Radio Frequency

Is it HIFEMS safe?

We have a very thorough health screening form which all clients are required to complete prior to treatment. If you are unsure if your medical condition would make this treatment unsuitable for you, we will encourage you to speak with your health care provider.

HIFEMS technology uses magnetic pulses to create contractions in the muscle similar to an MRI machine. There is no radiation, and it has been shown to be completely safe.

Some patients experience mild soreness the day after their treatment similar to having done a workout.

How long until I see results and how many sessions will I need?

The amount of time required to see results will vary with each individual depending on how much padding (fat) you start with. Results are based on two key factors: Lipolysis (Fat Reduction) and Apoptosis (Cell Death). While HIFEMS cause the muscle fibers to contract causing hypertrophy, it also implements Lipolysis and Apoptosis. The effects of hypertrophy can be seen relatively quickly (as litle as 2 - 3 weeks post treatment). Lipolysis and Apoptosis take much longer as the destroyed cells take longer to leave your body. This process can take several months, depending on how much fat was initially covering the muscle. It generally takes 6 weeks to see the full effect of a single treatment session; but many clients have reported a noticeable improvement to both skin texture and muscle tone within the first week.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone’s body and goals are different but generally we recommend a course of 8 sessions over a 4 to 6 week period for maximum results. Depending on your lifestyle factors, like diet and level of physical activity you undertake you may find regular maintenance sessions once a fortnight will assist in maintaining your results.

How often can I do a session?

We recommend having at least one day between treatments on the same area and a maximum of two treatments per week on a single area.

What does it feel like / does it hurt?

The RF will cause the pads to be warm to the touch. The HIFEMS causes the muscles to contract, it can be an intense feeling. Both the RF and the HIFEMS are fully adjustable and one of our technicians will be on hand to ensure that you are comfortable and make adjustments to the settings.

Is there any downtime?

This is a non-invasive treatment that requires no recovery time. Although HIFEMS is the equivalent of doing an intense workout; there is a unique phase during the treatment that helps to release lactic acid build up. This helps to avoid post treatment DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness).

Can I have a treatment if I am mensurating?

While HIFEMS on the abdominal region is not a contradicted by menstruation we generally encourage our clients to try and schedule treatments for when they are not menstruating as it can increase discomfort in the lower abdominal area along with an increase in flow and cramping.
